Why red roses are given on Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is the biggest flower date of the year, and the red rose is its universal code: it means romantic love and passion, an “I like you” understood in any language.
In Mexico and other Latin American countries February 14 is the Day of Love and Friendship, so giving flowers to friends counts too. For them, colors without so much romantic weight, such as yellow or pink, work better.
