Flowers with a Chilean accent
Chile’s national flower is the copihue, a red bell that hangs from climbing vines in the southern forests. In the middle of winter, between July and August, the aromo (mimosa) fills the hills and roadsides of central Chile with yellow. And southern Chile has specialized in peonies, harvested between November and January and exported to the northern hemisphere just when they are out of season there.

As in Argentina, the seasons are the reverse of Europe’s: spring in September (freesias, tulips, lilacs), peonies and roses in November, hydrangeas and lavender in summer, chrysanthemums and dahlias in autumn, and camellias, calla lilies and aromo in winter.
