A country that loves trends
Along with Argentina, Chile and Uruguay, Peru was among the first countries where the yellow flowers trend of September 21 went viral, since there it coincides with spring. Since then almost every color date has been added: March 21, Girlfriend Day on August 1, the blue flowers of Boyfriend Day and Men’s Day, and the purple flowers of November 9.

- November 1: All Saints’ Day, a public holiday, with visits to cemeteries; in many Andean areas families spend the day with their dead, with food and flowers.
The cantuta, flower of the Incas
Peru’s national flower is the cantuta (Cantua buxifolia), an Andean shrub with red, pink or yellow tubular flowers. The Incas considered it sacred and used it in ceremonies. Today it still grows in the valleys of the Andes and is a national symbol together with the cinchona tree.
Flowers in season in Peru
Peru has very different climates on the coast, in the highlands and in the jungle. In the Andean valleys cut flowers such as roses, carnations, alstroemerias and gladioli are grown almost all year; on the coast around Lima the seasons resemble those of the Southern Cone, with spring in September.
